Dataset Basics
The Indy Metropolitan Planning Organization (INDY MPO), in partnership with the Indianapolis Mapping and Geographic Infrastructure System (IMAGIS), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Hancock County and Johnson County, acquired imagery as a combined project during leaf-off, cloudless conditions March 30, April 1, and April 13, 2007. The project included Boone, Hancock, Johnson, Morgan and Shelby Counties. Acquisition specifications were 6-inch pixels at ground resolution for the parts of the county within either the Metropolitan Planning Area or the 133-city National Geospatial Agency (NGA) footprint and 1-foot pixels for the remainder of each county. Pinnacle Mapping Technologies, Inc. was the primary contractor. Alt-Terra Survey, Inc. (formerly Great Lakes Aerial Survey, Inc.), a Pinnacle sub-contractor, used a DiMAC 2.0 digital frame sensor (a Bayer color CCD technology) to acquire 3 natural color bands (RGB) and 1 near-infrared band (695%7e830 nm). The project vendors radiometrically corrected, tone balanced, and mosaicked the images using a newly upgraded digital elevation model.
Natural color (NC), orthophotography images are available in tiled, GeoTIFF format and as compressed political township mosaics in MrSID MG3 format. All images and mosaics are in Indiana State Plane East 1301. IMAGIS staff created MrSID MG2 mosaics for Boone and Morgan Counties. The Morgan County MG2 mosaics are in Indiana State Plane West 1302 coordinates.
Color infrared (CIR), orthophotography images are in tiled, GeoTIFF format. The vendors collected the images within the Metropolitan Planning Area or the NGA footprint at 1-foot ground resolution and 2-foot ground resolution for the remainder of each county.
As required by Indy MPO and USGS policy, these datasets are public domain without use constraints. The project vendors provided all deliverables by December 2007. IMAGIS staff provided a copy to University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University.
