Dataset Basics

The Monroe County GIS staff provided University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University staff with the Monroe County 2010 LiDAR, elevation, 2 foot contours, and 6 inch orthophotography datasets. The vendor, MJ Harden, used a Zeiss/Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera acquiring imagery at 4,800 feet which is suitable for 1"=100' scale mapping. The orthophotography source date is April 2, 2010. The metadata zip archive contains a shapefile of the individual tile's footprint for reference. Metadata is associated with each geotiff image as an xml file. UITS exported both the ortho and LiDAR xml metadata files to HTML format for viewing on this web page (see dataset information below).

The Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) LAS dataset is a topographic survey conducted for Monroe County, Indiana. The LiDAR Project consists of 525 tiles. The LiDAR point cloud was flown at a density sufficient to support a maximum final post spacing of 1.4 meters for unobscured areas and a planned vertical accuracy of better than 15 cm RMSEz. MJ Harden acquired 47 flightlines during two lifts on April 11 and April 12, 2010, using an Optech Gemini system. This accuracy exceeds FEMA surface requirements for 2‐foot contour intervals.The data was divided into 5000' by 5000' cells that serve as the final tiling scheme. The bare-earth surface contains voids in some areas such as those densely vegetated, covered by bridges, buildings, water, fresh asphalt, and sand. The vendor delivered the LiDAR mass points in American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing LAS 1.2 format.
