2005 DEM and DSM Models

Dataset Basics

The State of Indiana's vendor, Earth Data, used auto-correlation to create the 2005 elevation and surface models from the 2005 IndianaMap Color Orthophotography collected during March and April leaf-off conditions at a minimum resolution of 1-foot statewide. The data covers the entire land area of the State of Indiana and consist of 4000 foot by 4000 foot high resolution tiles. The entire perimeter of the State is buffered by at least 1,000 feet.

For the DEM, the files are named as xxxxyyyy_DEM_SPW, where xxxx and yyyy represent the easting and northing coordinates (respectively) in state plane feet, divided by 1000, of the tile origin (the top-left pixel) and SPW designates State Plane West Zone. For the DSM, the files are names as xxxxyyyy_DSM_SPW, where xxxx and yyyy represent the easting and northing coordinates (respectively) in state plane feet, divided by 1000, of the tile origin (the top-left pixel) and SPW designates State Plane West Zone.

These files can be used with GIS software to view the tiling system for the high-resolution 2005 ortho tiles.

Troubleshooting Tips

When working with .tif DEM files in ArcGIS, the raster may be displayed with all black space. This can be corrected by calculating statistics for the .tif file. This process will create an .aux file where auxiliary information about the raster, such as statistics, will be stored.
