2021-2024 Statewide Orthoimagery
Dataset Basics
In 2021, the Indiana Geographic Information Office began a 3-year (2021-2023) update project to refresh the orthophotography (RGBI) data for the entire state of Indiana. The state was divided into three general acquisition areas: center (2021), east (2022), and west (2023). These planned areas were modified slightly to account for weather conditions and buy-ups that occurred outside of the planned areas. The State's vendor, Sanborn, acquired 30 counties in 2021 as well as the INDNR (Indiana Dunes). 32 counties were acquired in 2022 as well as the INDNR (Lake Michigan Shoreline) area. 29 counties were acquired in 2023 at 6-inch resolution, and 3 counties were acquired at 3-inch resolution. Cities and counties had the option to buy-up from the standard product of 6-inch resolution, 4-band orthophotography to 3-inch resolution imagery. During 2024, 4 counties were acquired. In addition to orthophotography, LiDAR data was collected for the INDNR region in 2022 and 2023 for the Lake Michigan Shoreline.
County tiles are grouped into archives by USGS 24K Quadrangles. Cities that opted for 3-inch resolution within a county imaged at 6-inch resolution have tiles archived for the entire city as one archive for each file type.
